The Marvel of Superheros

Writer: Bill SniderBill Snider

The Marvel dynasty of superheroes has captured the imagination of a generation. Captain America, Ironman, and Black Panther do extraordinary feats to save the planet.

Superheroes in God's Kingdom are different. God places His mission in the hands of ordinary people. When I look at Jesus' disciples, they were regular people, nothing special. Fishermen, a corrupt government representative, an anarchist, hot-headed young men — not exactly those you expect to be called and chosen to change the world. But Jesus made disciples of them, and then they made disciples of others.

Ordinary People, Extraordinary Purpose

In my life, I've met a few stellar leaders and been with some very gifted workers, but most of those I've worked with or known are good people who just show up. Nothing special, but they are believers who love God and serve Him.

Lessons from the Field

Several years ago, I had the unusual opportunity to be with house church leaders in a closed country held in a secure location. Along with a few other westerners, we listened to the stories of the house church, as well as prayed and worshiped with these men. It was a time I will never forget. One leader of a church movement that numbered in the millions said simply, "I'm a farmer, I raise cows," but God called me to follow Him. He became a man of great wisdom and spiritual strength.

Faithfulness to God's Vision

God puts a vision in people's hearts, and He asks us to be faithful. When God first put a vision in my heart to start a media mission ministry for Asia in the mid-1980s, I didn't know what it would become. I just knew that we had to go.

Today, as I look at our Asia Pacific Media team of workers, these are people with a heart for God, a servant attitude, people with skill, and a desire to offer their best for the Kingdom. And they are now making disciples as they share why we do media, and how to do media. By investing in this next generation, they have a lifetime ahead to offer to God and to share creatively His messages. People are our legacy.

That's the journey that you've been on with us. And people from the nations are part of the Kingdom because each of us said "yes" to His call to go or to send.
